High school soccer playoffs set for Wednesday in Williamstown & Cornwall
Char-Lan nabs senior girls regular-season title, La Citadelle tops senior boys
Two weeks and it’s done — our local high school soccer regular-season that is. With all the scheduled matches in the books, the top teams have been declared, with Williamstown and Cornwall set to host playoff games on Wednesday.
Girls ‘A’
With 16 points to their credit on a record of 5 wins and 1 draw, the Char-Lan District High School Crusaders senior girls soccer team captured the SDGAA regular-season title, edging out the rival Glengarry Gaels. The latter played to a pair of ties (versus Char-Lan and La Citadelle) to finish with 14 points.
Four of Char-Lan’s games were shut-out victories (Tagwi, North Dundas, L’Heritage, and Seaway). Only Glengarry and La Citadelle could score against the Crusaders, who completed their schedule with a +27 goals differential. The Gaels were +16.

Les Patriotes (13 points, 4-1-1, +4) took third place, while the Tagwi Warriors (9 points, 3-0-3, -3) finished fourth to round of the playoff qualifiers in the senior girls ‘A’ division.
Non-qualifiers were Heritage (6 points), North Dundas (3), and Seaway (0).
Amongst junior ‘A’ girls squads following regular-season play, La Citadelle was on top with an unbeaten record (3-2-0) and a +11 goals differential. Les Patriotes only allowed one goal against (scored by Holy Trinity) through their five matches. Their record included a scoreless draw with Glengarry.
The Gaels placed second (8 points, 2-2-1, +1), followed in the standings by the Warriors (3 points, 1-0-4, -7) and the Crusaders (2 points, 0-2-3, -9).
The playoff action hosted by Char-Lan DHS in Williamstown is set to kick off on May 22 at 8:45 a.m. with the first junior semifinal featuring La Citadelle versus the Crusaders. At 10 a.m., the second semi is booked to hit the field, featuring Glengarry and Tagwi.
At 11:15 a.m., the first senior semifinal is slated to hit the field, with Char-Lan and the Warriors battling. Next, senior squads from Glengarry and La Citadelle will tangle in the second semi, beginning at 12:45 p.m.
Note, junior matches are set for 60 minutes of play, while the seniors will play for at least 80 minutes.
At 2:15 p.m., the junior championship title will be contested, followed at 3:30 p.m. by the senior title tilt.
Boys ‘A’
Les Patriotes senior boys played to a perfect record, winning their 6 matches and snagging 18 points. La Citadelle outscored their opponents 31 to 1. The lone blemish came in the game versus Glengarry, with Les Patriotes taking it 4-1.
The Gaels placed second (15 points, 5-0-1, +24). the only team to score against the Gaels was La Citadelle.
Third spot was claimed by Char-Lan (12 points, 4-0-2, +17) with Tagwi (9 points, 3-0-3, +3) finishing fourth.
Missing out on the playoffs were North Dundas (4 points), L’Heritage (2), and Seaway (0).
Topping the field amongst junior boys teams following regular-season action were the Tagwi Warriors (18 points, 6-0-1, +20). Their only loss came against ‘AA’ St. Joseph’s, 2-0.
La Citadelle (13 points, 4-1-2, +19) placed second, followed by Glengarry (10 points, 3-1-2, -5) and St. Lawrence (6 points, 2-0-5, -15). The Saints get the fourth and last playoff berth based on their head-to-head result against the Crusaders, a 2-1 win.
Char-Lan (6 points, 2-0-5, -14) and North Dundas (0 points, ) didn’t qualify for playoff action.
The ‘A’ boys playoff tournament on May 22 will follow the same start times as with the girls event, with games being played at La Citadelle, in Cornwall.

‘AA’ soccer
The girls ‘AA’ playoff games will be hosted by St. Joseph’s, as the Panthers senior squad won the regular season with 18 points and a perfect 6-0 record.
Up first at 8:45 a.m. will be the first senior semifinal, featuring St. Joseph’s against St. Lawrence, the fourth seed. The second semi, at 10:15 a..m., will see Holy Trinity (second place) tangle with CCVS. The junior championship is scheduled for an 11:45 a.m. kickoff when Catholic rivals St. Joseph’s and Holy Trinity will battle. at 1 p.m., the senior championship game is slated to be played.
For the ‘AA’ boys squads, the playoff schedule will be the same as the girls but played at CCVS, in Cornwall.
The Raiders ran the table unbeaten during the regular season, with a record of 5 wins and 1 draw, for 16 points. The Panthers placed second (10 points), with Holy Trinity third (9 points) and St. Lawrence fourth (0 points).
The opening semifinal will feature CCVS against St. Lawrence, followed by St. Joseph’s versus Holy Trinity. The junior title match will be a battle between the Panthers and Falcons, and will be followed by the senior championship match.
EOSSAA
Looking ahead, boys ‘A’ EOSSAA soccer for the regional title will be held in the county. Senior action, on May 28-29, is booked for Williamstown, hosted by Char-Lan DHS, while junior play, on May 27, will take place in Alexandria, hosted by GDHS.
The 'boys ‘AA’ tournaments will be held on the same dates, in Pembroke and Kingston, respectively.
For girls teams, dates and locations are the same.
