SDGAA high school track and field meet results
2022 event held May 4 in Ottawa
High school student-athletes from SD&G, as well as the city of Cornwall, competed at the SDGAA track and field championships, held May 4 at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa.
Char-Lan District High School, in Williamstown, won the overall championship. Congrats Crusaders!
Char-Lan’s Claire Poirier won gold in the novice girls 100 m dash, with a time of 14.68 seconds. Ziada Emedi, from CCVS, checked in second (14.73), followed by bronze medallist Jada Campbell, from GDHS (14.99).
Another Char-Lan athlete won the novice girls 200 m race, as Lauren MacDonell topped the field with a time of 30.98 seconds. Holy Trinity's Madeline Zappia and Ebba Cumming placed second and third, respectively (31.91 and 31.95).
Cumming took gold in the novice girls 800 m race. Charlotte Malyon, from Char-Lan, was second (3:00.14), while Bianca Bernier, from Tagwi, finished third (3:01.66).
In the novice girls 400 m event, Emma Morrow, from St. Joseph's, placed first (1:06.10), followed by Char-Lan’s MacDonell (1:08.86) and Tagwi’s Danika Canham (1:10.80).
Morrow also won the 1500 m race, finishing with a new meet record time of 5 minutes, 35.96 seconds. She eclipsed the previous mark by 12 seconds. Taking silver was Ciana Bradford, from Holy Trinity (5:53.77), while Seaway’s Emily Swerdfeger was third (6:23.44).
The 3000 m novice girls run saw Campbell, from GDHS nab the gold medal, with a time of 13:31.63, while Seaway’s Sierra Latulippe placed second (15:41.76).
In novice girls 80 m hurdles, Sophie McRostie from North Dundas, took gold (17.53), and in the 300 m hurdles, Morrow picked up her second medal, this time gold.
Tagwi won the novice girls 4 x 100 m relay, with a time of 1:00.13. The team featured Nuala Wheeler, Danika Canham, Bianca Bernier, and Ava McNaughton. GDHS placed second in this event (1:01.49), with Holy Trinity third (1:02.29).
Moving on to field events, Tagwi’s Wheeler won gold in the novice girls high jump (1.25 m), edging her schoolmate, Canham (1.20 m).
In the pole vault, Layla McDonell, from Char-Lan, won with a top jump of 1.70 m, while Ava Martel, from Saint Lawrence, was second (1.50 m).
The top three in the long jump were Marissa Whiteside, St. Joseph's (4.05 m), Michaela MacDonell, Char-Lan (3.82 m), and Ziada Emedi, CCVS (3.79 m).
With a 7.57 m best effort in the novice girls triple jump, Tagwi’s McNaughton nabbed her second gold medal of the meet.
Shot put: 1 Layla McDonell, Char-Lan (7.43 m), 2 Kamryn Larocque, Seaway (J6.52 m),3 Georgia Fourkiotis, Saint Lawrence (J6.52 m).
Discus: 1 Julia Cooper, North Dundas (18.31 m), 2 Ziva Ware, Tagwi (16.49 m), 3 Victoria Lalonde, La Citadelle 14.24 m).
Javelin: 1 Ella Fontaine, Tagwi (21.97 m), 2 Kamryn Larocque, Seaway (18.00 m), 3 Ziva Ware, Tagwi (17.72 m).

Senior Boys
Holy Trinity’s Thomas Shoniker was a triple gold medallist on the track, winning the 100 m dash (12.28), the 200 m race (24.59), and the 400 m event (56.52). Second and third places at the three distances were claimed by the following athletes:
100 m: 2 Ryan Levac, GDHS (12.34), 3 Alexei Martin, L'Heritage (12.41)
200 m: 2 Jacob Nimene, La Citadelle (25.93), 3 William Gosling, Holy Trinity (26.39)
400 m: 2 Callum Nystrom, GDHS (57.51), 3 Jacob Nimene, La Citadelle (58.87)
St. Joseph’s took first and second in the 800 m race, with Ian McCosham, on top at 2:15.54, followed by Jackson Chisholm (2:18.60). Cameron Belisle, from Char-Lan, was third (2:32.15).
The Panthers duo flipped the script in the 1500 m run, with Chisholm first at 4:31.48, a new meet record, followed by McCosham, (4:31.79). Jack Link, from North Dundas, was third (4:31.90). Of note, the times turned in by the second and third-place finishers both would have set a new meet mark.
Link set a new meet record in the 3000 m race, finishing the distance in 9:45.02 (eclipsing the previous mark by 44 seconds). McCosham, place second (9:46.62), with Loïc Mageau, from L'Heritage, third (11:48.77).
Hurdles winners were Simon Allard, from Holy Trinity, (22.25 at the 110 m distance), and Martin Bissonnette, from St. Joseph's (1:11.27 at the 400 m distance).
GDHS won gold in the 4 x 100 m relay race, with the team of Micah Santourian, Carl Marfurt-Breakenridge, Callum Nystrom, and Ryan Levac combining to finish the course in 50.60 seconds. Holy Trinity placed second, while L’Heritage was third.
On the field, four athletes cleared 1.55 m and had to be ranked based on previous attempts: 1 Ryley Ault, Seaway; 2 Tristan Deschamps, La Citadelle; 3 Justin Lalonde-Cyr, La Citadelle; 4 Zain Khan, Saint Lawrence. The meet record in this event is held by GDHS graduate Odin Marfurt-Breakenridge who cleared 1.83 m in 2018.
St. Lawrence athletes took the top three spots in the pole vault: 1 Kowen Hesse (3.50 m), 2 Jordon Rochon-Prevost (2.80 m), 3 Kason Martel (2.50 m). Former Char-Lan student Brennan Seguin, who now competes for the University of Guelph, retains the meet record of 4.45 m, cleared in 2018.
Long jump: 1 Justin Lalonde-Cyr, La Citadelle (5.76 m); 2 Ryan Levac, GDHS (5.40 m); 3 Callum Nystrom, GDHS (5.37 m).
Triple jump: 1 Justin Lalonde-Cyr, La Citadelle (11.24 m); 2 Brayden Boismenu, La Citadelle (10.80 m); 3 Kyle Brown, St. Joseph's (8.78 m).
Shot put: 1 Jack Gray, Holy Trinity (10.18 m); 2 Sean Marasa, Char-Lan (10.07 m); 3 Antoine Morin, La Citadelle (10.01 m).
Discus: 1 Sean Marasa, Char-Lan (27.36 m); 2 Dylan Hunter, St. Joseph's (27.21 m); 3 Matthew Lalonde, Tagwi (24.98 m).
Javelin: 1 Callum Nystrom, GDHS (36.26 m); 2 Théodore Lacroix, L'Heritage (35.46 m); 3 Nico Fourkiotis, Saint Lawrence (29.13 m).
The open boys 2000 m steeplechase event finished in a tie, as Chisholm and Link both clocked in at 8:30.00.
The open boys 4 x 400 m race was won by St. Joseph’s with the team of Chisholm, McCosham, Wyatt Warner, and Xavier Gault (4:10.89). North Dundas was second (4:29.76), and GDHS placed third (4:34.50).
Senior Girls
In the 100 m dash, Holy Trinity’s Millie Cameron, bested the group (13.60), with Olivia Ethier, from La Citadelle, second (14.30), and Keira Maccormick, St. Joseph's, third (14.48).
Millie also won the 100 m hurdles with a meet record time of 16.85 seconds.
Maccormick won the 200 m race, with a time of 29.93, while in second was Estelle Ngwa, from Holy Trinity (31.46), and in third was La Citadelle’s Abigail Mulumba (32.81).
400 m race: 1 Olivia Laplante, Holy Trinity (1:19.10); 2 T. Marfurt-Breakenridge, GDHS (1:19.89); 3 Caitlynn Baker, Char-Lan (1:20.06).
800 m race: 1 Mya Campbell, GDHS (2:48.01); 2 Cassidy Porteous, North Dundas (2:54.10); 3 Dawn Nansumba, St. Joseph's (2:59.88).
1500 m race: 1 Isabella Lalonde, La Citadelle (5:33.66); 2 Maxima Markl, Tagwi (6:07.11); 3 Zoe McIntosh, GDHS (6:15.63).
Holy Trinity’s Amber Laferriere nabbed gold in the 3000 m run, with a time of 12:52.22, and Porteous, won the 400 m hurdles (1:16.91).
In the 4 x 100 m relay race, St. Joseph's prevailed (58.15) with the team of Olivia Mudde, Emma Morrow, Keira Maccormick, and Dawn Nansumba. Finishing second and third, respectively, were La Citadelle and Holy Trinity.
High jump: 1 Deanna Gill, Saint Lawrence (1.35 m); 2 Ceilidh Pate, La Citadelle (1.30 m).
Pole vault: 1 Ava Bellefeuille, Saint Lawrence; and Grace Eamer, Char-Lan (2.25 m); 3 Deanna Gill, Saint Lawrence (2.00 m). In 2017, Char-Lan’s Mackayla Petrie achieved what remains the meet record, with a jump of 2.75 m.
Long jump: 1 Olivia Mudde, St. Joseph's (4.29 m); 2 Olivia Ethier, La Citadelle (4.20 m); 3 Frances McDonell, Char-Lan (4.19 m).
Triple jump: 1 Mudde (9.72 m); 2 McDonell (8.19 m); 3 Julia Allen, Holy Trinity (7.96 m).
Shot put: 1 Millie Cameron, Holy Trinity (8.49 m); 2 Alexandra Peachy, L'Heritage (8.30 m); 3 Lilah Mines, Char-Lan (7.98 m).
Discus: 1 Peachy (25.49 m); 2 Mines (22.44 m); 3 Coral Laflèche-Rozon, L'Heritage (20.49 m).
Javelin: 1 Mines (25.75 m); 2 Camrin Connors, St. Joseph's (24.93 m); 3 Laflèche-Rozon (22.76 m).
In the open girls 2000 m steeplechase, Isabella Lalonde, from La Citadelle, claimed gold, with a time of 10:00.00.
The open girls 4 x 400 m relay race was won by the team from GDHS: Alexandria Theoret, Samantha MacLean, Ava McIntosh, and Mya Campbell (4:55.95).
Other Notables
Char-Lan’s novice boys team won the 4 x 100 m relay race (54.22).
Holy Trinity’s foursome of Melanie Kamm-Ramirez, Lexie Mayer, Marley McCaig, and Ebba Cumming won gold in the junior girls 4 x 100 m relay (1:00.01).
Jack Mines, of Char-Lan, set a new meet record in the novice boys discus throw, achieving a best distance of 38.36 m.
St. Joseph’s won the junior boys 4 x 100 m relay race with a time of 51.16 seconds. The team comprised Eliott Chisholm, Xavier Gault, Ryder Starblanket, and Wyatt Warner.

The PRSSAA, in which Alexandria’s Le Relais competes, held its track and field meet in conjunction with the SDGAA.
Gold medal wins for Le Relais came in the novice girls 1500 m (Kamylle Poirier, 6:28.62), novice girls 3000 m (Léa-Maude Lajoie, 12:41.97), novice girls 300 m hurdles (Lajoie, 57.08), junior girls 800 m (Mikella Carrière, 3:13.48), novice boys 1500 m (Olivier Quesnel, 11:58.54), novice boys 300 m hurdles (Quesnel, 56.29), novice boys discus (Alexandre Paquette, 24.38 m), junior boys 200 m (Phoenix Milley, 25.75), senior boys 100 m hurdles (Justin Blais, 20.84), and senior boys long jump (Jimmy Berry, 5.84 m).
