Senior A hockey: Prowlers sign 'key piece', Pipers add assistant coach
With the 2021-22 senior A hockey season on the horizon, the Cornwall Prowlers and Glengarry Pipers continue their preparations.
The Prowlers recently announced the signing of forward Derrick Ryan. The 37-year-old is described as being in “top shape” and ready to help Cornwall defend its EOSHL championship.
General manager Mitch Gagne inked Ryan to fill the team’s need for “a solid veteran forward with some leadership.”
Originally from Fournier, he currently resides in Long Sault. Ryan joined the Prowlers for summer skate sessions, and it was evident that this was a perfect fit to replace experienced vet James Kirkwood who was picked up by the Glengarry Pipers during last winter’s non-season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ryan was captain of the CJHL Ottawa Junior Senators for two seasons, 2003-05, before going on to place NCAA Division III hockey stateside. He also played 14 games in the IHL with the Flint Generals.
Pipers add Disotell as assistant coach
The Alexandria-based Glengarry Pipers recently hired Wayne Disotell of Avonmore as an assistant coach. As the team highlights, “Wayne brings a wealth of knowledge to the Pipers bench. He is a very tactical coach and has a winning attitude.”
For the 2018-19 season, the last time the EOSHL saw action, Disotell was behind the bench of the Maxville Millionaires.
