St. Joseph's wins boys hockey title, La Citadelle captures girls hockey trophy
Local high school hockey playoffs held last week in Long Sault
The 2024 SDGAA high school hockey champions were declared last week, as the Panthers from St. Joseph’s CSS won the boys title, and Les Patriotes from ÉSC La Citadelle claimed the girls crown.
The boys playoff tournament was held on February 27 in Long Sault where the unbeaten Panthers pounded Les Patriotes 6-2 for gold.
In semifinal action, St. Joe’s dispatched Holy Trinity 4-2, and La Citadelle got past Char-Lan 6-4.
The Panthers were 7-0 during regular-season play, capping off their 2024 SDGAA season at 9-0.
With the local title under their belts, the SJ boys are booked to play tomorrow, March 5, at EOSSAA in Renfrew.
Girls championship
On February 28, the SDGAA girls hockey championship was contested on the ice in Long Sault, where La Citadelle (5-1) upset the top-ranked Panthers (6-0).
The gold medal final was a close one, with Les Patriotes edging St. Joseph’s 3-2.
Semifinal play saw SJ blank Holy Trinity 5-0, and La Citadelle edge Tagwi 2-1.
Les Patriotes finished regular-season play in second place, behind St. Joseph’s. Tagwi (3-2-1) was third, and Holy Trinity (3-3) fourth.
