Girls high school hockey playoffs set for Wednesday in Long Sault
St. Joseph's, the first-place team from regular-season action, hosts La Citadelle, Tagwi, Holy Trinity
The SDGAA girls high school hockey championship will be on the line February 28 at the Long Sault arena, where the top four teams from regular-season play will battle on the ice.
The Panthers earned the right to host the event after finishing in first place with a perfect 6-0 record.
The opening game, at 9 a.m., will see St. Joseph’s take on Catholic rival Holy Trinity in semifinal number one. The Falcons placed fourth following regular-season action.
The second semi, at 10:30 a.m., will feature second-seeded La Citadelle versus third-ranked Tagwi.
Winners advance to the SD&G championship game which is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
The regular season wrapped up February 14 in Alexandria, where St. Joseph’s blanked Holy Trinity 5-0 and beat Char-Lan 7-2. The Crusaders also lost to Tagwi, falling 6-4.
GDHS was shut out 2-0 by Holy Trinity but scored a 1-0 win later, by default, over Seaway / North Dundas. That Gaels loss to the Falcons hurt, as it’s what left the GD girls outside of the playoff picture, by just a single point.
Other results on the day saw the Warriors shut out by Les Patriotes 5-0. La Citadelled also record a victory in their other contest, by default.
